PAINTING HOLIDAYS At the holiday workshops we try to ensure that you will have a great time learning new techniques and meeting new friends. We are dedicated to helping you improve as a painter in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Don was with me  for one of the weeks in Provence in 2014 and he has kindly allowed me to share his comments with you here. I try to help you develop your own style, rather than just have you copy what I do but it is important that you like the way I paint so have a look at the gallery. If you like what you see then I’m  sure you will enjoy the workshops. You will need your own painting materials (except Umbria) although we do have a little shop on the local workshops that can supply you with materials at prices comparable to internet art shops. All abilities are very welcome but you are advised to have at least some basic knowledge, gained from other classes, books or videos.  Read the information for each workshop carefully. Overseas workshops usually include accommodation and meals and often include seats and easels whereas local workshops usually do not. I have a few seats and easels available for those travelling to local workshops by air but you must reserve them when booking. We suggest links to local accommodation on the Irish workshops. Workshop times and details vary a little depending on the organisers but each day begins with a demonstration lasting around one hour. After this you are free to choose your own subject for painting or if you prefer you can use the subject demonstrated. I spend the rest of the day helping and advising each participant. Occasionally there may be a second demonstration. If it rains we have an indoor studio to let us continue our painting. On residential trips we have a daily critique before dinner which gives us the opportunity to see what the others have painted. PROVENCE, FRANCE 9-16 September (First and last days of each workshop are arrival/departure days) organised by LE VIEUX MURIER I tutor the Provence workshops but the organisation is all down to Jeff Monaghan in conjunction with Judith at Le Vieux Murier.  The Provence workshops are always popular and normally fill up very quickly so if you wish to book or to get more details email Jeff. He will be very happy to deal with your enquiry. Provence is a beautiful area for painting with the wonderfully atmospheric towns and villages surrounded by the gentle countryside. We stay at Le Vieux Murier, a converted old stone farmhouse and dairy in the hamlet of Les Salettes, just over an hour from Nice. The cost includes bed, breakfast, some lunches and all dinners with wine or soft drinks. Transfers from Nice airport and travel to the painting locations each day is also included. There is also a private swimming pool. Flights are not included and must be organised by each participant. There are regular flights to Nice from airports throughout Europe. During your stay we visit Lorgues market, one of the biggest in the region and we will paint in a variety of towns and villages, each offering countless subjects for the watercolour painter.
